Everything the first year demands — the full vaccine series, deworming, spay/neuter, and four milestone exams — without the four-figure surprise bills.

Twice-a-year exams and expanded diagnostics, because in a senior pet six months is a long time. Built to catch kidney, thyroid, and heart changes early.

How enrollment and billing actually work.

How enrollment works

Enroll at any visit or by phone in about five minutes. We do a brief records review, set your monthly payment, and your plan benefits start the same day — including that day's exam if you enroll in the room.

Monthly billing, no surprise math

One flat monthly charge per pet, 12-month term, then month-to-month. There's a one-time $45 enrollment fee, waived if you enroll at your pet's first visit. Plans are memberships, not insurance — every included service is prepaid, not reimbursed.

What plans don't cover

Wellness plans cover preventive care. Illness, injury, surgery beyond spay/neuter, and emergencies are billed normally — though plan members never pay a sick-visit exam fee. Many families pair a plan with accident-and-illness insurance for full coverage.

Multi-pet households

Each pet carries their own plan sized to their life stage, and every pet after the first gets 10% off their monthly price. A three-dog household on Adult Wellness saves roughly $95 a year just on the discount.

Boarding and grooming perks

Cancelling or switching plans

Pets grow up — when your kitten hits their first birthday or your dog turns seven, we move them to the next plan at renewal, never mid-term without asking. If you cancel early, you simply pay the difference between services used and payments made.

Wellness plan FAQ

What pet parents ask before enrolling.

Is a wellness plan the same thing as pet insurance?
No — and the difference matters. Insurance reimburses you after accidents and illness. A Harlow wellness plan prepays the preventive care your pet needs every year regardless: exams, vaccines, bloodwork, parasite prevention, and dental credits, spread into one monthly price. Many of our families carry both — the plan for the predictable care, insurance for the unpredictable.
How much do the plans actually save compared to paying per visit?
Priced individually, the services in Adult Wellness — exam, vaccines, annual bloodwork, heartworm test, 12 months of prevention, and the $150 dental credit — come to roughly $720 a year at our standard rates. The plan costs $468. The savings are larger on the puppy/kitten plan because the spay/neuter surgery alone typically runs $350–$550.
Can I enroll a pet who is already sick or older?
Yes. There are no health exclusions because plans cover preventive care, not treatment. Senior pets are actually where plans earn their keep — the twice-yearly exams and expanded bloodwork on Senior Wellness are exactly how we catch kidney and thyroid disease while they're still manageable.
What happens if I miss a monthly payment?
We'll retry the card, then email you before anything changes. Plan benefits pause after two missed payments and resume as soon as the account is current. Nobody's plan gets cancelled over a expired card — call the front desk and we'll sort it out.
Do wellness plans cover exotic pets like rabbits and guinea pigs?
Not yet as a standard tier — exotic species have very different preventive schedules. Dr. Rivera builds custom annual care packages for rabbits, guinea pigs, and ferrets on request. Call the clinic and ask for an exotic wellness quote.
Can I use plan benefits at other vet clinics?
Plans are honored at Harlow Animal Hospital on Mission Blvd only. If you move away from San Diego mid-term, we'll close the plan out fairly — you pay only for services already used, and we forward complete records to your new veterinarian at no charge.
