★★★★★

We’ve been coming to Harlow for six years. Dr. Harlow diagnosed our dog’s autoimmune condition when two other vets missed it. She explains everything, follows up herself, and genuinely cares. There is no other vet in San Diego for us.

★★★★★

Dr. Rivera is the only exotic vet in San Diego who actually knows rabbits. He spotted GI stasis in our Holland Lop before it became critical. The Fear Free approach is real here - Coco is calm from the moment we walk in.

★★★★★

The in-house lab is a game-changer. We had results and a diagnosis in the same visit. Other vets had us waiting three days. Keely and Marcus are so good with our anxious rescue - she actually looks forward to coming here now.

★★★★★

Dr. Nair did ACL surgery on our lab mix and the outcome was better than we dared hope. The pre-op consult was thorough, rehab instructions were clear, and the team called to check in at 24 hours and one week. Five stars isn’t enough.

Pet care FAQ

Common questions from pet owners.

What should I bring to my pet's first appointment?
Please bring any prior veterinary records, vaccination history, and your pet's current medications in their original packaging. If your pet is on a prescription diet, bring the bag or a photo of the label. Arriving five minutes early gives us time to get your pet checked in and comfortable before the exam.
Which animals do you actually see?
Dogs and cats are the bulk of our caseload, and cats get a separate quiet waiting area so they arrive calmer. Dr. Tomás Rivera also sees rabbits, guinea pigs, chinchillas, ferrets, birds and reptiles - species-specific protocols, not a dog protocol scaled down. Hedgehogs and sugar gliders we will see, with the caveat that some procedures still need a zoological specialist; call first and we will tell you honestly.
How do I book, and how fast will I hear back?
Use the request form for any wellness visit, vaccine update, or nail trim - it takes about two minutes and the front desk calls you back within 2 business hours with a confirmed time. Nothing is charged when you submit it. If your pet is sick or something feels urgent, call (619) 555-0122 instead: we hold same-day sick appointments every morning and release them on a first-call basis, so calling before 9am gives you the best shot.
What vaccinations does my dog or cat need?
For dogs, core vaccines include rabies, distemper-parvovirus (DA2PP), and bordetella. For cats, core vaccines include rabies and FVRCP. Non-core vaccines like Leptospirosis, Lyme, or FeLV depend on your pet's lifestyle and exposure risk. We will walk you through exactly what makes sense at your wellness visit.
Do you offer payment plans?
We accept CareCredit and Scratchpay, both of which offer 0% interest plans for qualified applicants. Applications take about three minutes at the front desk. We also accept all major credit cards, debit, and cash. We do not offer in-house payment plans but will always discuss estimates before any procedure.
What constitutes a pet emergency?
Seek emergency care immediately for: difficulty breathing, collapse or inability to stand, suspected poisoning or toxin ingestion, seizures, severe vomiting or diarrhea (more than twice in an hour), major trauma, eye injuries, or difficulty urinating. Our after-hours line connects you to a triage nurse who can advise whether to wait or go to the emergency clinic.
